In situ production at the construction site of non-combustible thermal insulation material
ABOUT THE CARBONBETO GEO RESEARCH PROJECT
The project aims at the development of innovative thermal insulation material with competitive properties equal to established commercial ones in terms of thermal conductivity and therefore energy savings, while it will be non-combustible with fire resistance up to 1.050° C.
At the same time, the material that will be developed will present clear and measurable environmental and economic benefits since on the one hand valorizes a metallurgical slag of the electric furnaces as a raw material, while on the other hand the application will be held in situ with common available machines without need to pre-standardize it in appropriate dimensions, thus reducing application time by 50%, with a significant reduction in thermal insulation costs.
Thus will be achieved with this fireproof material is expected after the widespread commercialization of the product.
CARBONBETO GEO is a funded research project in the field of “Development of building materials or systems for use in construction & infrastructure with improved energy, functional or environmental performance”.
The total duration of the project is estimated to be 30 months.
Objectives of project are
- Reducing cost of thermal insulation materials using cheap technology and low-cost raw materials.
- High marketability of a material that combines innovation of technical properties, production and environmental friendliness.
- Reduction of the application time of thermal insulation and fire-resistant materials with on-site production/application.
- Utilization of an industrial by-product reducing the problem of deposition.
